Mitch Maverick

As a con man, you have taken on many aliases throughout your life, the latest one being Mitch Maverick. When you heard about the Deadwood Poker Tournament with the grand prize of one hundred thousand dollars, you were very intrigued. Since you have recently been working your cons in the territory east of the Mississippi and you have no contacts in Deadwood, you figured no one would know your face or know of your cons. With your anonymity in Deadwood, you reasoned it was a great place to pull your next con. Currently, you are being sought out by a few not-so-friendly outlaws, hired to hunt you down after you conned a wealthy businessman in Chicago. Their reminders of the money that they want you to repay have become increasingly urgent and painful and you are in desperate need of money to repay them. After arriving earlier this week in Deadwood, you recruited a partner-in-crime to help you with your con, Clay Coldwell (a local resident). Clay was also participating in the poker tournament and did not believe his own chances of winning the tournament were very high. After learning this, you promised Clay half of any winnings from the tournament if he were to help you to cheat. Clay took you up on this offer and, with Clay’s help, you were able to win the tournament and the purse of $100,000. Even though you intended to keep your promise to Clay and split the winnings with him, you have suddenly become very greedy and have decided to keep the money for yourself. Currently, Clay thinks you are going to meet him at the train stop later tonight after you are awarded the money. At the train stop, Clay is expecting you to split the winnings as promised, and make sure that you get out of town without getting caught! On top of your business here in Deadwood, the beautiful Minnie Money (a debutante from the East) has caught your eye. Minnie is both gorgeous and wealthy, two things you desire in a woman. However, yesterday when Minnie’s father arrived in Deadwood, you realized that she was a woman you would not want to get further involved with. After learning this, you chose to avoid Minnie and she was not very happy with your decision to ignore her. After witnessing Holly Hickok (another gambler) leaving your hotel room on a “friendly visit” last night, Minnie confronted you and the two of you fought about the reasons for the sudden end to your brief relationship. With all of the happenings in Deadwood, you are looking forward to collecting your money at the Poker Tournament Party and getting out of town! Although you are dreading seeing Minnie at the celebration, you know that you must attend in order to receive your winnings. While at the party, you plan to try to keep a low profile, as you are sure there are many that will want you dead!

Acting and Dressing Your Part:

Although, you claim to be a wealthy businessman from the East, you have made a living out of getting people to trust you and then stealing their money. Because of this, you possess a very friendly and talkative nature. Since you are a businessman and not a professional gambler, you will pretend to be surprised and humbled about your winnings. To the party you will want to dress consistent with the times and wear a button-down shirt, vest, and hat (bowler, derby, slouch, gambler or other).
