Montgomery Money

Montgomery Money

A man of wealth and prestige, you are originally from Chicago, a land far to the east of Deadwood. In search of an opportunity to expand your fortune, you have made your way out to Deadwood looking for some land and possibly an establishment to invest in. Among the establishments that you are scouting is the Deadwood Saloon which is rumored to be very close to foreclosure. With the poker tournament in progress, you thought that this would be the perfect time for you to visit Deadwood and to check out your potential investment. Although this is your first trip to Deadwood, you did see a familiar face upon arrival - Mitch Maverick. Mitch Maverick is a con man who had conned you out of a great deal of money.

Two months ago, Mitch convinced you to invest some money into a scheme in which he promised you that you would profit $150,000. Instead of profiting, you ended up losing $100,000. It was a week after you had turned over your money to Mitch before you realized that Mitch had left town and had taken your money with him without any intention of returning any profits to you. Of course, at the time, Mitch went under the alias Victer Hammick. In an attempt to make Mitch pay for making a fool out of you, you had Mitch located by your associates who discovered that he was planning on attending the Deadwood Poker Tournament. Because you wanted to catch Mitch by surprise, you stalled your arrival in Deadwood until later in the week by staying in St. Louis on your business trip. If you arrived earlier, you were afraid that Mitch would be tipped off on the sight of you and leave town.

While in Deadwood, you are certain that Mitch is planning on pulling another con and you want to make sure that he does not get away with stealing money again. Earlier this week, your wife and daughter (Elizabeth and Minnie) arrived in Deadwood to help you scout out the land. Your family thinks that you are out here solely to invest in property, mainly the Deadwood Saloon. Because your wife and daughter have never been west of the Mississippi, you are unsure how they will react to this unruly land. Elizabeth has told you of the bank robbery that happened in town earlier this week and she expressed a great deal of concern that such unlawful behavior is happening in their midst.

As the Poker Tournament Party draws closer, you are looking forward to attending, getting to know some of the local business people and residents, as well as getting your wife and daughter’s perspectives on the town of Deadwood. Unbeknownst to your wife and daughter, at the party you are also planning on completing some unfinished business with Mr. Victer Hammick a.k.a. Mitch Maverick.

Acting and Dressing Your Part:

A dignified man from the East, you own an expensive and distinguished wardrobe which may consist of a button down shirt, vest, tie and hat (bowler, derby, slouch, gambler or other). Popular in the time period, you may also consider adding in facial hair. As a businessman, your dealings in the past have taught you to trust no one. Being left-handed and obsessed with time, it is important that you wear a watch on your right hand and check it often.
