Poker Alice

Poker Alice

Born Alice Ivers in England in 1851, you were educated in England and moved with your family to the new land and settled in the West. Shortly after settling, you found yourself bored with the farming lifestyle and ran off with Black Bart, a bandit! Over a years time, you and Bart gallivanted over the West reaping havoc with many unlawful and deadly acts, earning you the name of “Assassin Alice”. Unfortunately, Bart was soon caught and hung for his dastardly deeds. Not wanting to end up like your dead beau, you found yourself alone and seeking a new, exciting-but-lawful life in the West. Once single, you began hanging out in gambling halls, where you became a professional poker dealer. As a popular poker dealer, you moved around and worked at various gambling houses and often travelled to wherever was paying the most money for their dealers. However, about six months ago when you were passing through Deadwood, Harry High-Stakes (the Deadwood Saloon owner) offered you a steady job tending bar and dealing cards at his saloon. Harry’s offer was too good to refuse and you decided to settle here in Deadwood. Even though your life in Deadwood is simple, you keep it exciting. Billy-The-Bartender (the Deadwood Saloon bartender and bookkeeper) fancies you and while you enjoy the attention that he pays you, you have hesitated at furthering the relationship. Since Billy is concerned about staying on the “right side” of the law, you fear he may be unaccepting of your outlaw past. Although you have yet to return Billy’s feelings of affection, you know that you can exploit Billy’s adoration to get whatever you want from him, including information on the saloon. Among other tidbits, Billy has told you that the saloon is in financial trouble and that Harry does not trust Henrietta, (Harry’s wife) with the finances of the saloon.

With the tournament in town this week, you have seen Jesse Wales (an outlaw) back in Deadwood. There are rumors that Jesse is back in town to collect a debt from Harry, but you also suspect that Jesse’s motives might be to expose you. (There is a reward out for your apprehension.) Coincidentally, during Jesse’s visit to town, you have noticed that Jesse has been spending some time with Barb Cassidy (another outlaw). You wonder if Jesse’s relationship with Barb is strictly business or pleasure.

With the poker tournament over, you are looking forward to the Deadwood Poker Tournament Party. While dealing cards in the tournament, you had the opportunity to observe an array of distinct characters that were visiting Deadwood. At the party, it will be interesting to see how everyone interacts in a room together for the evening. In addition, you are anxious to see Gambling Jack (a gambler in the tournament). Although Jack did not win the tournament, you are certain that you witnessed Jack counting cards and you wonder what his reaction will be when you confront him about his cheating. In addition, you are fairly certain that Clay Coldwell (a gambler) may have also been cheating, but you have no proof in the matter.

Acting and Dressing Your Part:

As a real woman of the West and a resident of Deadwood, you dress with a flare for the West. Within your outfit, you may want to include boots, a hat, a bandana, shoestring tie, spurs, fringe, chaps and any other accessory you desire.
